I am a researcher at the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (MACS) at Heriot-Watt University. My research has been conducted in the domain of interactive narratives and has been acknowledged both nationally and internationally in various publications and presentations. It is essentially based on the work carried out on my PhD and aimed at investigating the co-existence of narrative structures and interactivity within interactive dramas. This resulted in the design of a novel double appraisal action selection mechanism of affectively driven synthetic actors. I aim in the coming years to strengthen this position by pursuing current and future research questions in the area.
Research Interests:
* AI and player motivation * Intelligent agents and synthetic actors * Pedagogical applications of interactive storytelling * Emergent Narrative / Interactive drama authoring * Development of evaluation methodologies for interactive content * Affective computing
I am now a member of the EPSRC AI and Games research network and writing a number of grant proposals on the topics of games, AI and player motivation, adaptive technology for entertainment. I have to date worked on a EU Streps bid and looking to submit my first EPSRC grant proposal in the coming months.
